🍷 Red Bordeaux Wines
Bordeaux reds are all about balance, depth, and character — typically crafted by blending several grape varieties.
Merlot – Smooth, soft, and fruity. A Right Bank favourite from areas like Pomerol and Saint-Émilion.
Cabernet Sauvignon – Bold and structured, with excellent ageing potential thanks to its tannins in the stalks and pips of the grapes. It dominates the Left Bank in Médoc, Pauillac, Saint-Julien and Margaux.
Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec add complexity to the wines - making the wines more three dimensional perhaps. They can add layers of spice, floral notes and richness.
Generally, you should expect flavours of dark fruits and subtle hints of herbs or spice. Some bottles are approachable now; others will benefit from long-term cellaring.
🥂 White Bordeaux Wines
Not just a red wine region — Bordeaux whites are equally refined.
Sauvignon Blanc – Crisp, citrusy, and fresh.
Sémillon – Adds body, richness, and honeyed notes.
Muscadelle – Brings a touch of floral aromatics.
Look for dry styles from Graves, or explore sweet, golden wines from Sauternes and Barsac, known for their luscious texture and complex flavours — often thanks to the natural magic of noble rot on late harvested grapes.
